Have you ever experienced an incident where you just can't help feeling an overload of emotions and you end up breaking down or lashing out?
This may be a common case of "amygdala hijack", where the emotional storage in your brain overwrites your sensory and cognitive functions. Your emotions cloud your judgement and thoughts, resulting in negative and destructive outbursts like snapping or spiraling.
Though these outbursts can feel uncontrollable, there is a way to fortify yourself against them.
Join us in this session as we explore building self-awareness in the face of adversity. Learn how to identify your sub-conscious tendencies and what you can do to consciously react in more constructive ways. This is a 2-part special in Resilience.

It is what happens when someone care too much about too many when they give and give more and become emotionally depleted. It occurs in health care professions and in education. Empathy fatigue can mean that we care so deeply for other people that we have no capacity to care for ourselves, shielding our emotions, and withdrawing. It is possible to care too much. And when one person has empathy fatigue, it is likely to spread, like a virus, and more and more people will be affected. I this session, we will analyse the causes of empathy fatigue and explore what school leaders, key personnel and teachers can do to minimize it and to help teachers be comfortable and energized.
Learning Outcomes:
•Will understand what causes Empathy Fatigue
•Will come away with - learn and develop - strategies to avoid and ameliorate empathy fatigue

Students need to learn the 3R's, but that is not sufficient. Academics should be the floor, not the ceiling of our aspirations. We must go beyond academics and develop students' social-emotional learning (SEL), in order to prepare them for a world in which the only constant is change. To do this, we must use a school's culture to develop students' Formative Five: empathy, self-control, integrity, embracing diversity, and grit. In this session, we will learn about the Formative Five success skills and how culture can be used to teach SEL.
Learning Outcomes:
• Will learn the value of SEL
• Will learn the Formative Five Success Skills
• Will come away with - learn and develop - ideas and strategies to implement SEL

Youth. Migrant workers. Elderly. Neurodiverse people. Ex-offenders. Underprivileged Families. The pandemic has drastically impacted many vulnerable and marginalised groups. How can we support these groups, and what does happiness look like in different perspectives?
From 19 - 28 March, we will be featuring six international films, each paired with a local short film and followed by a dialogue with community leaders working on the ground.
