Our mindful journey together has been one of growing awareness, deepening presence and strengthening purpose. As educators, we have learned that leadership begins with self-leadership. Through mindfulness, we cultivate the capacity to pause, listen deeply, respond wisely and care wholeheartedly. Together, we are building a culture where well-being, compassion and learning flourish - enabling us to nurture every child while continuing to grow as a connected community of learners, leaders and change makers.
With reference to Yu Neng Primary School’s strategic direction, values, and growing emphasis innovation and wellbeing, the staff’s mindful journey can be described as an evolving collective commitment to leading self, leading others, and leading change with presence and purpose. The school’s 2026–2030 strategic plan explicitly identifies “Strengthening Well-Being & Mindful Practices” as a key priority and seeks to integrate mindful habits of heart and mind into the school culture. To this end, our mindful journey has been a collective endeavour of learning, reflection and growth. What began as individual moments of awareness has gradually evolved into a shared commitment to cultivating presence, well-being and purposeful leadership across our school community.
Beginning with Self-Awareness
The journey started with a recognition that personal leadership and wellbeing begins within. Staff learn to cultivate awareness of their thoughts, emotions and behaviours, developing the capacity to pause, reflect and respond intentionally rather than react automatically. This aligns with the school’s aspiration to nurture educators who are mindful, engaged and caring.
Building a Culture of Presence
Through mindfulness practices and reflective conversations, staff gradually strengthen their ability to be fully present with students, colleagues and parents. Presence has progressively become more than a personal practice—it is way of showing up for one another with attentiveness, empathy and respect, reflecting the school’s GR³IT values.
Growing Mindful Leadership Capacities
As the journey deepen, staff continue to explore qualities of mindful leadership:
· Being attentive to what matters most.
· Being objective and less influenced by assumptions.
· Exercising discernment in decision-making.
· Maintaining balance amidst competing demands.
· Responding wisely and compassionately to challenges.
These qualities support the school’s belief that educators are change agents who create conditions for students and colleagues to flourish.
Strengthening Collective Well-Being
Over time, mindful being is becoming a shared endeavour rather than an individual practice. Staff wellness sessions, mindful moments, learning circles and collaborative reflections help create psychological safety, deepen trust and foster a stronger sense of belonging within the school community. This reflects the school’s vision of a vibrant connected community that aspires, learns and leads together.
Leading with Purpose and Compassion
At the same time, the mindful journey has increasingly influenced how staff teach, collaborate and lead. Mindfulness supports educators in nurturing joyful learning, modelling resilience, building positive relationships and responding to the needs of students with greater care and understanding. This contributes directly to the development of caring leaders and passionate learners.
A Mindful Journey Together
Today, mindfulness is becoming woven into the story of Yu Neng Primary School—not as an isolated programme, but as a way of being. As the school embarks on its strategic plan under the theme “OurStory Continues: A Mindful Journey Together,” staff continue to walk this path collectively, nurturing hearts and minds while shaping a flourishing school community. we remain committed to nurturing the inner capacities that enable flourishing — for ourselves, our students and our community. Together, we continue to grow a culture where learning, well-being and leadership are deeply connected, and where presence becomes a powerful force for positive change.
